Just because you're battling square footage doesn't mean you have to skimp on style. Style, functionality, and organization are key when battling furniture arrangements in a small living space.
Skip the big stuff. If a space is tight, consider skipping a large upholstered sofa or loveseat and try circling two or three upholstered accent chairs around a coffee table instead.
Make clean lines your friend. You don’t have to sacrifice comfort, but consider investing in more contemporary styled furniture. Clean sight lines minimize clutter and make the room appear larger.
Stash extra seats nearby. There’s no need to clutter up a space by having unneeded chairs out at all times. Keep a few folding or stackable chairs in a closet or garage until you have company.
Ditch the roadblocks. If you discover physical or visual barriers that make the space hard to navigate, spend some time experimenting. Narrow pieces could solve your problem, or try dressing up a corner.
Take it easy on the patterns. In small spaces, it may be necessary to choose furnishings with a lighter feel. Play with colors, but use them in small amounts, like in throw pillows or décor items.
Cash in on vertical space. How about a floor to ceiling or wall to wall bookcase? A solid wood bookcase in a beautiful stain or bold color will create an undeniable focal point and add storage.
